The bandwidth test downloads an image approximately 1MB in size and calculates how long it took you to download it. The number is not extremely accurate but it will provide you with a more than reasonable estimate on your current available bandwidth at the time of the download.

We reccommend making sure that any other software on your desktop is shut down so that it does not hinder the test, as well as any other desktops on your network.
